Hello, and welcome!
We are a pottery studio in Winnipeg, Manitoba that designs pottery that is beautiful, useful, affordable, and sustainable for home and garden.
We believe clay is an ancient solution to some of our modern challenges, and we hope you can join us in our clay adventures!
Michael Holroyd
Michael studied ceramics at the University of Calgary in the early 80’s. He worked as a potter and teacher in Saskatchewan, honed his craft as a production potter near Halifax Nova Scotia and eventually opened his own pottery: Art Monque Pottery. He and his wife Karen started their own family in and decided to move back to their Prairie roots in 1996.
With a young family, Michael put his love of clay on hold and retrained as a carpenter. In 2023, he re-opened his pottery under his HTN Home and Garden carpentry business. In January 2025, he renamed it Bunns Creek Pottery- inspired by the beauty of the nearby creek that cuts through Northeast Winnipeg on its way to the Red River.

Karen Thomas
Karen (from Winnipeg) met Michael in 1987 while working in the community of Outlook, SK. Throughout her 35 years of social work in three different provinces, she continued to follow her passion for growing plants and building community.
In 2023, Michael made Karen irrigation pots called “Ollas” to reduce water waste, fertilizer run off and labour in container gardening. In 2024, Karen and Michael developed a Seed Starter Tray made of porous clay that wicks water from outside in, making seed starting effortless. Her goal is to help share this amazing technology for those who want to start seeds without major expense or fuss.
